Toddington Village Magazine article, published 1st April 2026:
Government sets its agenda, policies and targets:
- 1.5 million target for new homes and National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) affects planning.
- The Central Bedfordshire Local Plan implements those targets and government policy in our local area.
- The Neighbourhood Plan becomes part of the local authority’s development plan, carrying significant weight in deciding planning applications and empowers local communities to guide the location, design and type of development. It must conform and cannot conflict with Government and local plans.
What is happening in these areas?
- Significant changes to NPPF will mean development is more likely to happen and green belt protection will become weaker – consultation is now closed and we expect the framework to be issued May 2026.
- Central Bedfordshire Local Plan is expected to be open for consultation during 2026 and adopted end 2028.
- We are increasing the pace to deliver a Neighbourhood Plan for approval by Toddington Parish and we have the support of the Parish Council.
